Hi Bshack,

The beta version of Farm Fountain was a one-gallon fish bowl with a few goldfish in it. Here is a picture.

This has a tiny pump, which brought water up to the top plastic containers with plants, which trickled down, back into the fishbowl. If you want to grow edible fish you'll need a larger tank. I learned from Laura Tiu at the Ohio Center for Aquaculture that the rule of thumb for Tilapia fish is 1 gallon of water can support 1/3 pound of fish. They grow up to be 1.5 pounds.

I hope you can set up a system that fits in your space.

I know this is for growing food and "growing" fish, but can fish be used that is not intended for eating ... like say pet goldfish for example?

Hello

I use my current goldfish pond in this manner by floating plants directly upon their pond (flowers at this point).

I just use the cheap feeder fish. Pet stores will tell you you cannot do that. That feeder fish are not healthy but I have had 8 of them for 7 years now and the biggest is now about 8" long in a 40 gal container pond.

They thrive!!
